Jay falls to Adams Central (05/04/07)

The Patriots traded one Central team for another, but the result was the same.

After falling to Muncie Central Wednesday Jay County's girls dropped a 4-1 decision Thursday to the Adams Central Jets.

Cindy Muhlenkamp and Megan Knittle turned in the Patriots' only victory, defeating Janelle Bertsch and Heather Miller 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.

At No. 1 doubles Jessica Muhlenkamp and Tiffani Bickel took the opening set to a tiebreaker, but lost 7-6 (7-3), 6-3.

Jenna Valentine played the closest singles match at the No. 2 spot in a 6-2, 7-5 loss to Megan Smith. At No. 1 singles Carissa Wilkins lost 6-2, 6-1 to Rachel Barger, and at No. 3 singles Megan Adams suffered a 6-0, 6-1 defeat against Chelsea Selking.

Jay County won the junior varsity match 8-3 led by an 8-1 victory by the team of Brittany White and Becky Muhlenkamp at No. 4 doubles.

Falcons top SAHS

WINCHESTER - The Starfires controlled the doubles matches, but went 0-3 in the singles for a 3-2 loss Thursday to the Winchester Golden Falcons.

Katie Welch and Kristi Lehman fought off Teresa Fulton and Melanie Orr, narrowly avoiding a third set as they won 6-2, 7-5 at No. 1 doubles. Taylor Miller and Tara Beitler picked up the No. 2 doubles win 6-2, 6-4 over Grace Wallace and McKenzie Kirby.

In singles matches Stacey Thorpe lost 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 to Melissa Humphrey at No. 1, Kristen Steiner fell 6-4, 6-4 to Sarah Cox at No. 2 and Amanda Sprunger dropped 6-2, 6-3 to Ariel Detrick at No. 3.

South Adams went 3-0 in JV matches with wins from Rachel Sprunger, Emily Steiner and Lynette Circle.[[In-content Ad]]
