Red and green may be the colors of the season, but that didn't help the Red Devils Wednesday.
Behind Shelby Gierhart and Brittany Muhlenkamp, Jay County's freshman girls basketball team dominated the second half to slam Richmond 41-24.
The host Patriots had just a three-point lead at halftime, but pushed the lead to seven after three quarters. They added a 12-2 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter to pull away.
Gierhart racked up 15 points to lead Jay County (3-1) to the win, and Muhlenkamp was right behind her with 13. Both players also grabbed six rebounds.
Jamie Klinger added six points.
Eagles top Westside
West Jay Middle School's girls basketball teams each came away victorious Tuesday. The eighth graders took a 21-12 win over Union City Westside while the seventh grade team eked out a 21-20 victory.
Taylor Burris was the high scorer on the evening, leading the eighth grade Eagles with 11 points. Annie Jetmore followed with four points.
Marissa Murrell put up eight points to lead the seventh graders. Kelsey Sell was second on the squad with four points.
High Roller girls win
BLUFFTON - The Jay County High Rollers girls high school bowling team came away with a victory Tuesday, topping Bellmont 16-4 in a 10-game Baker-format match.
The High Rollers had a top score of 192, and averaged 169. Bowling for Jay County were Autumn Shepherd, Lauren Spahr, Shanda Morningstar, Desi Fuller, Kristy Bost and Kristi Elmore.[[In-content Ad]]
