Jay freshmen clobber Devils (12/07/06)

Local roundup

Red and green may be the colors of the season, but that didn't help the Red Devils Wednesday.

Behind Shelby Gierhart and Brittany Muhlenkamp, Jay County's freshman girls basketball team dominated the second half to slam Richmond 41-24.

The host Patriots had just a three-point lead at halftime, but pushed the lead to seven after three quarters. They added a 12-2 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter to pull away.

Gierhart racked up 15 points to lead Jay County (3-1) to the win, and Muhlenkamp was right behind her with 13. Both players also grabbed six rebounds.

Jamie Klinger added six points.

West Jay Middle School's girls basketball teams each came away victorious Tuesday. The eighth graders took a 21-12 win over Union City Westside while the seventh grade team eked out a 21-20 victory.
