Jay girls seeded fourth in regional

JCHS cross country

If the Patriots win their third straight regional title, they will have definitely earned it.
Jay County High School’s girls cross country team, which won its fifth straight sectional title Tuesday, heads to today’s regional meet hosted by Delta at The Water Bowl in Muncie as the No. 4 seed. It sits behind Yorktown, Pendleton Heights and Mount Vernon, which were separated by just four points at Tuesday’s Pendleton Heights sectional.
South Adams’ boys and girls teams will also be competing in regional action Monday at the tournament hosted by Marion on the Indiana Wesleyan University campus. The Starfire girls are the No. 4 seed, and the boys are the No. 6 seed.
The top five teams and top 15 individuals from each race advance to the semi-state round of the tournament.
JCHS comes in as a distant No. 4 seed — all projections are based on sectional times — in the girls race at Delta with 102 points.
Yorktown, the sectional champion at Pendleton Heights, is the regional favorite with a projected score of 53 points. Pendleton Heights is the No. 2 seed at 56, and Mount Vernon follows at 59.
Delta is seeded fifth at 135, well ahead of sixth-seed Anderson.
Chloe Miller of Anderson is the regional favorite individually after finishing first in the Pendleton Heights sectional in 19 minutes, 45 seconds.
The only Patriot runner projected to finish among the top 15 is junior Katie Simmons. She was third in the Delta sectional in 21:12 and is the No. 11 seed for the regional.
Eme Miller, a sophomore who was sixth in the sectional, enters as the No. 18 seed. Senior Leah Wellman, who was seventh in the sectional and placed eighth in the regional a year ago, is seeded 20th in the regional this season.
The South Adams girls, who project for 155 points, heads to the Marion regional as the fourth seed behind No. 13 Columbia City (29), No. 12 Huntington North (48) and No. 19 Homestead (72). The Starfires finished fourth behind the same three schools last season.
After winning the Bellmont sectional title, Hannah Moore enters the regional as the No. 5 seed with her time of 19:40. Renee Menzie of Columbia City is the favorite at 18:47.
The next-highest seeded Starfire is Jenna Smith at No. 27.
In the boys race at Marion, South Adams (173) is the sixth seed and will be in a battle with Southwood (191) for the final semi-state qualifying spot. Those two schools are seeded behind No. 17 Homestead (59), Whitko (65), Huntington North (74) and Eastbrook (139).
Junior Eric Isch, who was third in the Bellmont sectional, is the No. 8 seed for the regional at 16:37. Evan Liechty (17:24) is seeded 25th.[[In-content Ad]]
