Jay golfers defeat Rebels, Indians

The Patriots didn’t score as well as they would have liked, but they still came away with a pair of victories.
With Evan Mathias leading the way Tuesday, the Jay County High School boys golf team finished with a 184 as it hosted a three-team match at Portland Golf Club. Randolph Southern was second at 192, while Union City shot 228.
Mathias earned medalist honors for the Patriots, who improved to 8-2 despite posting their second-highest nine-hole score of the season. He had four pars, including back-to-back on the 150-yard, par-3 13th and 520-yard, par-5 14th holes at PGC.
Ian Gough led Randolph Southern with a 43, and Trevor McLoughin shot 55 for Union City.
Mitchel Rigby recovered from a slow start to par four of the final six holes for a 47 for JCHS. Austin Wendel also shot 47, with his lone par coming on No. 14.
Adam Alfont completed the team score with a 50, and Zach Fullenkamp shot 52.

Indians honored
FORT RECOVERY — Eighteen Fort Recovery High School athletes, including six each from the girls track and softball teams, were presented with All-Midwest Athletic Conference academic awards Tuesday.
Hannah Kaup, Rachel Pugh, Emilie Sheridan, Elle Sutter, Sam Tobe and Jessica Vogel picked up the honor for the girls track team. Joining them were softball players Janelle Schwieterman, Ashley Homan, Haley Knapke, Melissa Lochtefeld, Kelsee Ontrop and Elizabeth Hipple.
The baseball team added five honorees in Elijah Kahlig, Jacob Muhlenkamp, Chad Schroer, Alex Thien and Cole Wendel. Derek Sutter earned the award for the boys track team.

In order to be named to the All-MAC Academic Team, and athlete must be at least a sophomore, earn a varsity letter and carry a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
Roberts aces No. 15
Joel Roberts hit the first hole-in-one at Portland Golf Club this year.
Roberts aced the 15th hole at PGC using a 4-iron on the 150-yard, par-3. Gary Tarr, Tom Meinerding and Fred DeHoff witnessed the shot.
Also at PGC on Saturday, the team of Mark Tatman, Brian Watson, Scott Rines and Brad Burkett won the J.Gordon Meeker Golf Outing. Justin Knapke, Tim Knapke, Adam Poliskie and John Patterson.

Keihn lifts Brewster
Already 4-for-4, Lydia Keihn stepped to the plate with the game on the line Tuesday and delivered a walk-off single to give Brewster Electric a 12-11 win over Portland Optimist in Portland Junior League Rookie softball.
Jay County REMC defeated First Merchants Bank 14-1.
Keihn’s single with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning brought Lenzi Earles to the plate with the winning run. Keihn finished 5-for-5 with an inside-the-park home run, a triple, four RBIs and four runs, and Katlyn Brown added three hits, five RBIs and one run.
Reba Wendel led the REMC win with four hits, five RBIs and three runs. Destiny McManus had three doubles, four runs and an RBI.
Emily Byrum had three hits, including an inside-the-park homer, two runs and two RBIs for Optimist, and Brauee VanSkyock singled and scored the lone run for First Merchants.
