Jay gymnasts improve again, place 2nd at Richmond (01/09/06)

Jay County roundup

RICHMOND — Such improvements would be impossible to continue, but the Jay County gymnastics team has made huge gains in each competition.

After an opening 82.15 and a 92 Wednesday the Patriots posted a 97.05 at Richmond Saturday to finish second to the host Red Devils at the four-team event. Lincoln was third at 90.9, and Rushville was a distant fourth at 59.2.

Part of the improvement has come from the return of senior Hannah Williams, who suffered a preseason injury, missed the opening meet and competed in just two events Wednesday. She returned to all four events at Richmond, winning the balance beam with a 9.25. She also finished second in the all-around competition (34.3), second on the floor exercise (8.8), third on vault (8.4) and third on the uneven parallel bars (7.85).

Sophomore Erika Hunt was the only other Patriot to crack the top three at the meet, finishing second ahead of Williams on the vault with an 8.6.
