JCHS girls tennis
After a shutout loss to Bellmont Wednesday, the Jay County girls tennis team was happy to have a visit from the Muncie Southside Rebels.
Three of the Patriots' four regular-season wins a year ago came against Southside, and they kept that pattern rolling Thursday with a 4-1 victory. JCHS has already matched its regular-season win total from a year ago as it now sits at 4-2.
Carissa Wilkins, who suffered her first loss of the year against Bellmont, bounced back with a dominating win at No. 1 singles. She improved to 5-1 on the year with a quick 6-0, 6-1 victory over Aubrey Green.
The No. 2 doubles pair of Cindy Muhlenkamp and Megan Knittle also made quick work of their Rebel opponents. They defeated Heather Flowers and Leah Pukett, who retired trailing 6-1, 5-1.
Jessica Muhlenkamp and Tiffani Bickel won the No. 1 doubles match 6-2, 6-2 over Beth Kimbrell and Jessica Arnold, and Megan Adams topped Jessica Dickinson 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.
The only loss for the Patriots came at No. 2 singles, where Jenna Valentine battled back after a tough first set only to fall 6-1, 7-5.
Junior varsity
Jay County dominated the Rebels, winning all seven contested matches.
Two of those wins came by way of a shutout as Hannah McAbee blanked Tiffani Sanders 8-0 at No. 2 singles. In the No. 1 doubles match Briann Saxman and Megan Huntsman also won 8-0 over Noelle Gudger and Taylor Lampke.
