Jay pair wins again (05/22/08)

JCHS girls tennis

PERU - Tiffani Bickel and Cindy Muhlenkamp simply refuse to allow their season to end.

Two points from defeat, the Jay County High School girls tennis team's No. 1 doubles duo fought back to win four consecutive games and win the Peru sectional title 3-6, 7-6 (7-3), 7-5 over Kayla George and Stacy Schrader of the Maconaquah Braves.

Muhlenkamp and Bickel faced a 5-3 deficit in the third and deciding set and were down 30-love, leaving George and Schrader just two points from victory. But the Patriot pair rallied to breake Maconaquah's serve, and Bickel served out the 10th game of the set to even the score at 5-5.

The Braves managed to take just a single point in their next service game, and Bickel racked up four put-away shots in the 12th game of the set to finish off the comeback win.

Jay County also trailed 6-5 in the second set, but won the next game to force a tiebreaker. After falling behind 2-1, Bickel and Muhlenkamp won six of the next seven points to take the second set.

They advance to the doubles regional Saturday, May 31, at Carmel, where they will play the winner from the West Lafayette tournament.[[In-content Ad]]
