Jay players in all-star game

Four Jay County High School football players will participate in the East-West All-Star football game Friday.

Dexter Shreve, Lance Franklin, Dalton McGill and Jon Hawn, all of whom were seniors on the Patriot football team in the 2008 season, will play for the West team. The game is at Richmond High School at 7 p.m.

Shreve was one of the top receivers in the state in his final season, finishing fifth in Indiana with an average of 97 yards per game. He was also among the state leaders in scoring as he finished with 14 touchdowns.

Franklin was a state leader at the linebacker position. He racked up 128 tackles in eight games, finishing fifth in the state with an average of 16 per game.

McGill, a defensive back, had 20 tackles and one interception this season. Hawn, a lineman, totaled 24 tackles and one sack.

Wellman leads Muncie

Jay County High School graduate Billy Wellman helped lead the Muncie Chiefs American Legion baseball team to a double-header sweep of Lewis Cass Sunday, 12-6 and 10-2.

Wellman racked up five hits in the double-header. One of those was a home run as he finished with four RBIs.

Three score five

Pacie Denney and Ian Miller each scored five goals Saturday in leading their teams to victory in the West Jay Community Center Summer Soccer League.

Denney's five goals led the Squidz to an 8-4 win over the Whales, and Miller paced the Jaguars' 8-5 victory over the Cheetahs. Zarron Lee did all the scoring as the Lions tied the Tigers.

Quin Faulkner scored four times to lead the Sharks to a 6-1 victory over the Sting Rays, and Daniel Fugiett had four gals in a 4-3 Lightning win against the Thunder. Jaylen Young scored three times as the Blizzards beat the Cyclones 5-3, and Matthew Paquette did all of the Hurricanes' scoring in a 3-2 win over the Twisters.[[In-content Ad]]
