Jay-Randolph tops Greenfield for 1st victory (06/29/04)

The Jay-Randolph Bulldogs American Legion baseball team broke through Sunday, ending a season-long eight-game losing streak with an 8-2 victory over Greenfield. JR lost the second game of the double-header to Greenfield 12-8.
The Bulldogs (1-9) scored five times in the third inning as leadoff hitter and Jay County graduate Heath Williams sparked the offense in the contest. Williams finished 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored.
Tyler Croyle and Cory Waldrath also had big games. Croyle was 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs, and Waldrath added two hits, three RBIs and a run.
Jacob Sewell also scored twice.
Daniel Bogue picked up the first JR victory of the season on the mound as he allowed two runs on seven hits in five innings. He gave way to Jay County’s Josh Atkinson, who allowed three hits in two scoreless innings.
Williams and Jay County’s Josh Shatto powered the Bulldogs in the game-two loss.
Shatto was perfect at 2-for-2 as he drove in two runs and scored twice. Williams also had two hits to go along with two RBIs and one run.
Jay County’s Cory Locke also scored one run.
Sewell started and took the loss, and Atkinson allowed two runs on four hits in three innings.
Church League update
The best teams in Division I have dominated Church League softball thus far, with Nazarene A sitting just a half-game in front of West Walnut as of the weekend.
Nazarene A is 9-1 on the season, with West Walnut just behind in Division I at 8-1.
Hickory Grove is 2-2 and leads Division II as the only team at .500.[[In-content Ad]]
