FARMLAND - A balanced team effort got the Patriots right back on the winning track Monday.
Jay County High School's girls golf team cruised to a pair of victories as it posted a score of 202 Monday at Hickory Hills Golf Club. The host Monroe Central Golden Bears were second at 233, and the Wapahani Raiders shot 239.
The wins pushed the Patriots' season mark to 6-1. Their lone loss came Thursday to fifth-ranked Richmond.
Cara Garringer led JCHS as she opened and closed her round with pars and also had a third on the 355-yard, par-5 sixth hole. She added four bogeys to earn medalist honors with a 47.
Abby Denney was just a stroke behind her teammate as she recorded the Patriots' lone birdie on the sixth hole. She also parred the 246-yard, par-4 seventh and had three bogeys.
Macey Gerber had a par and three bogeys for a 53, and Brittany Stevens and Whitney Gray each shot 54.
Alysia Fennig shot a 58 for the JCHS junior varsity followed by Emily Morris (68) and Cortney Myers (75).
FR freshmen win
FORT RECOVERY - The Fort Recovery freshman volleyball team dominated the third game Monday to improve to 2-0 with a 26-24, 22-25, 25-7 win over the St. John's Blue Jays.
Kelsey Fiely and Amy Link each totaled five kills and one block for the Indians. Emily Link scored 11 points, and Heather Vaughn had nine points.
Patriot freshmen lose
Jay County High School's freshman football team slipped to a 34-20 loss Monday to the visiting Blackford Bruins.
Vance Guntle recorded a pair of rushing touchdowns for the Patriots. Cody Bellis added a TD on the ground along with a 2-point conversion.
Tribe spikers split
UNION CITY - Tori Lennartz led the Fort Recovery Middle School seventh grade volleyball team to a 25-18, 14-25, 15-6 win Monday over Union City Westside. The eighth grade Indians lost 9-25, 26-24, 15-12.
Lennartz had 11 points and one kill to lead the seventh graders. Rachel Pugh added nine points and one kill, and Cassidy Rammel had two assists.
Ashley Homan paced the eighth grade team with nine points, including six aces, and three kills. Hannah Kaup had four aces as she scored 11 points.[[In-content Ad]]
