MARION - In its final action before the tournament season, the Jay County High School wrestling team dominated.
The Patriots won 10 of 14 matches, scoring pins in eight of them, in a 56-18 destruction of the Marion Giants.
Jay County is now 15-6 and will have more than a week off before competing in the Olympic Athletic Conference tournament Saturday, January 19, at Anderson Highland. The team will host the sectional tournament a week later.
No one worked faster than junior Ben Theurer, who won the 135-pound match in one-minute flat. Classmate Casey Kenney joined him on the list of pins, jumping to 119 pounds for the first time in his career and finishing off Sergio Flores in 3-minutes, 32 seconds, to improve to 32-0.
Three other Patriots joined Kenney with second-period pins as Kyler Blowers (HWT) was victories in 3:30, Zach Ainsworth (189) rolled in 3:24 and Drake Meska (112) won in 3:33. Other pins came from Brad Tipton (160) in 4:10, Aaron Miller (145) in 4:27) and Cameron Pfeifer (125) in 5:00.
Sha White was also impressive at 171 pounds as he turned in a 17-2 major decision. Caleb Culy (130) turned in the other Patriots win, topping Evan Mazellan 6-3.
