CONNERSVILLE — Jay County’s girls golf team placed second Monday in the Olympic Athletic Conference tournament.
The Patriots shot a 458 at Connersville Country Club, edging Muncie Southside (460) for the runner-up spot. Host Connersville dominated the meet, finishing as the OAC champion with a 382.
Trisha Champ led the Patriots and nearly took the individual conference title in the process.
She opened in style with pars on the first three holes and shot a 43 for a one-stroke lead of Anderson Highland’s Katie Windlan on the front nine. However, Windlan rallied on the back and Champ’s score bumped up just slightly.
Windlan, who was second last year, took the confernece crown with an 86. Champ finished in second place with an 88 after placing fourth during her freshman season last year.
Miranda Denney returned from injury to varsity action to give the Patriots a second all-conference honoree. She picked up three bogeys for a 52 on the back nine, finishing ninth overall with a score of 116.
Each of the top five individuals earned All-OAC honors while those in places six through 10 received honorable mention.
Alissa McMillan parred one of the par-3s on each side of the course to finish with a 122. Ashley Bunch and Brittney Lewis each shot 132.[[In-content Ad]]
