Jay softball blanks Bears (05/18/05)

PORTLAND — Jay County’s softball team ended a four-game losing streak Tuesday with a 6-0 victory over the Monroe Central Golden Bears.
Brittany Logue tossed a three-hit shutout in the final home game of her career to earn her sixth win of the season. She struck out two batters and walked three while getting excellent defense to back her up.
Amber Champ and Miranda Betz each had a pair of hits for the Patriot offense. Champ tripled and drove in three runs, and Betz had a triple, two runs and an RBI.
Chelsea DeBoy was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Trisha Champ had a hit and a run.
Lisa Weitzel and Andrea Current, the two other Jay County seniors, also closed out their careers well. Weitzel singled and scored a run, and Current also scored once.
The Patriots (8-14) will complete the regular season today at Adams Central before opening sectional play against Mississinewa Monday at Blackford.

PORTLAND — The Jay County junior varsity baseball team scored seven runs in the second inning on the way to a 14-0, five-inning destruction of the Monroe Central Golden Bears Tuesday.
The Patriots (13-5), who also scored three times in the fourth and fifth innings, got three hits, including a pair of doubles, from Justin Mann. The freshman also pitched the shutout, allowing just two hits while striking out eight.
Bryce DeBoy added two hits, and Tony McCowan, Ryan Rogers and Aaron Bogenschutz each had a double.[[In-content Ad]]
