Jay spikers defeat Bruins (09/19/2008)
JCHS volleyball
HARTFORD CITY - Jay County High School's volleyball team knocked off the Blackford Bruins 25-23, 25-19, 18-25, 25-22 Thursday to push its record to 8-9 on the season.
Trailing late in the fourth game, the Patriots rallied to the lead and then sent Kristi Morningstar behind the service line. She closed out the match, getting help from blocks by Mariah Hornaday and Amy Alig.
Sarah Westgerdes led the JCHS offense with 12 kills. Kelsey Wood added eight kills and six digs, and Alig chipped in five kills.
Kelci Reed scored 12 points for the Patriots, Liz Walker followed with 10 points and Morningstar had eight points with five aces.
Cheslea Grady came up with 12 digs, and Morningstar totaled 13 assists.
Junior varsity
Jay County improved to 6-4 with a 25-24, 25-20 victory over the Bruins.
Jen Dirksen led the Patriots with seven points and four digs, and Kassi Hemmelgarn had six points and a pair of kills. Maria Murphy finished with three kills and three blocks.
Lacey Randolph had a team-best five digs, and Taylor Burris notched a pair of kills.[[In-content Ad]]
