JCHS softball

CONNERSVILLE — Jay County’s softball team split a pair of exciting games against the Connersville Spartans Saturday, winning the opener 10-7 in eight innings and dropping game two 8-7.

The Patriots trailed 7-4 in game one, but rallied to tie the score with a run in the sixth inning and two more in the seventh. They scored three runs in the top of the eighth to win the Olympic Athletic Conference battle.

Shae Keller struck out 11 as she went the distance in the team’s first victory. She gave up seven runs — five earned — on eight hits and four walks.

The Champs led the offense, with senior Amber and sophomore Trisha each finishing with a pair of hits. Amber had a double and a triple to drive in three runs, and Trisha finished with two triples and two runs.

Chelsea DeBoy added three hits, three RBIs and two runs, Keller had three hits, two RBIs and two runs and Saffron Redwine singled twice and scored three times.

Jay County (1-2, 1-0 OAC) had a 3-0 lead in the second game, but couldn’t keep Connersville off the board in the fifth and sixth innings. It gave up eight runs to the Spartans in the two frames, and fell a run short of forcing extra innings again by scoring once in the seventh.

Miranda Betz paced the offense, going 2-for-3 with a double and a run. Redwine and Amber Champ added two hits apiece, and DeBoy had two RBIs.

Amber Edmundson allowed eight runs — five earned — on eight hits in her first varsity start.[[In-content Ad]]
