Jay swimmers win 10th straight

DECATUR — The members of the Jay County Summer Swim Team didn’t enjoy dropping its first meet of the season. So they made sure they didn’t have to experience defeat again.
Jay County finished off its regular season Tuesday, winning its 10th straight meet as it cruised to a 700-464 victory over host North Adams Central.
Twenty-seven different athletes each picked up an individual victory, with Mara Bader and Mary Hudson leading the way with three apiece. Bader took the top spot in the 8-and-younger girls long freestyle, backstroke and individual medley while Hudson was first in the 15-and-older butterfly, backstroke and breaststroke.
Jay County (10-1), which will host the Wabash Valley Conference Championships at 9 a.m. Saturday, got two wins each from Damian Hicks, Lilly Clemmons, Eliza Bader, Konner Sommers, Ethan Corwin, Eme Miller, Sok Vormohr, Ian Reynolds, Sydney Mathias, Daniel Ostrowski, Kaitlyn Dow and Alex Bader. Single wins came from Alex Sutton, Josh Lykins, Quin Blakely, Jamie Valentine, Anne Vormohr, Sophie Bader, Christian Vormohr, Luke Nichols, Alex LeMaster, Audrey Shreve, Abilene Hough, Avery Vormohr and Ashlyn Dow.
Williams makes finale
Williams Auto Parts earned a spot in Thursday’s Portland Junior League Rookie League baseball tournament championship game. Pak-A-Sak will have a chance to be there as well.
Williams earned its title berth with a 24-13 semifinal victory Tuesday over J&P Plating. Pak-A-Sak defeated Barnett’s Auto Parts 22-13 and will play Ponderosa in semifinal action tonight.
Michael Trobridge led the offensive onslaught for Williams, racking up four doubles, six RBIs and four runs. Tarron Bentz was 4-for-4 with five RBIs and four runs.
Jacob Hart had three extra-base hits, four RBIs and three runs for J&P.
Justin Hoover paced Pak-A-Sak with four hits, including an inside-the-park home runs, four RBIs and three runs. Tyler Manor had four hits, three runs and three RBIs.
Bruce Collins hit an inside-the-park homer for Barnett’s.
Lions take first
DUNKIRK — The Lions claimed sole control of first place in the Wildcat Division of the West Jay Community Center Summer Soccer League, winning 3-0 Tuesday over the Jaguars while the Cheetahs fell 3-2 to the Tigers.
Zaaron Lee and Matthew Paquett each scored first-half goals to put the Lions (4-1) in control. Sydnee Lee added a score in the second half.
Malcolm McIntire scored two goals for the Tigers, and Jacob Conley added another.
Danuel Fugiett had both goals for the Cheetahs, who dropped to 3-2.
