Jay tankers defeat Adams Central (02/12/08)

Three swimmers won two events apiece Monday in leading the Jay County middle school swim team to a couple of wins over Adams Central.
Behind double wins from Caitlin Mark, Wiley Young and Lucas Holcomb, Jay County won the girls meet 174-111 and the boys 168-100.
Young dominated both of his events, winning the boys 100-yard individual medley by more than nine seconds in 1-minute, 12.04 seconds with teammate Caleb Hummel in second. He also took the 400 freestyle by 20 seconds in 5:19.54.
Holcomb added a big win in the 100 backstroke, taking the event by more than 18 seconds in 1:19.04. His other win came as he posted a time of 32.23 in the 50 butterfly.
Mark paced the Jay County girls, picking up the team's first win of the evening in the 200 freestyle at 2:32.67. She also turned in the team's final victory of the night in the 100 backstroke in 1:21.46.
Other winners for the team were Laura Bowen (100 individual medley), Mariassa Murrell (50 butterfly) and Zane Shreve (100 breaststroke).
Bader leads the way
FORT WAYNE - Alex Bader earned top honors as the Jay County Winter Swim Team competed this weekend at the Polar Bear Plunge.
Bader picked up high-point honors in the 8-and-younger girls division. She won seven of her 10 events.
Sophie Bader and Anne Vormohr shared the spotlight in the 9-10-year-old girls division, tying for runner-up point-scoring honors. Caroline Kloepper qualified for the divisional meet in the 50-yard backstroke and 50 freestyle.
Aly Miller added a pair of third-place finishes and Mary Hudson and James Keen each placed fifth in one event. Wiley Young turned in five career-best times.
Three score wins
GREENFIELD - Courtney Miles, Alexis Murrell and Nadlie Runyon each picked up wins as Gym City Gymnastics competed at the Ultra Stars meet Feb. 2 and 3.
Miles posted a career-best score of 8.825 to earn the victory on the Level 5 vault. Murrell won the Level 4 balance beam with an 8.6, and Runyon took the top spot on the Level 8 beam at 9.35.
Murrell finished in the top three on every event and in the all-around, Miles was third on the beam and Runyon placed third on the floor exercise. Katie Snyder, Miranda Hibbard and Riley Leavell also posted multiple top-three results.
The team also competed in the Indiana Judges Cup in January, with Malarie Houck qualifying for the state meet. Runyon added a third-place finish on the vault.[[In-content Ad]]
