Jay to join Marion in Sectional 6 (03/27/07)
INDIANAPOLIS - Jay County will be seeing a lot of the Giants.
The Marion Giants have long been the host school for the Patriots' boys and girls tennis sectional tournaments. More recently they became hosts for the girls soccer sectional.
And when the new sectional groups for football were announced in February, Marion was one of two teams shifted to the Sectional 12 group with Jay County.
The two schools were united again Monday when the IHSAA announced the new sectional groups for boys basketball, girls basketball, baseball, softball and volleyball. Both Marion and Jay County will reside in Class 4A's Sectional 6 along with Huntington North, Homestead, Fort Wayne North Side and Fort Wayne South Side.
Jay County's move from Class 3A, where it spent the last six seasons, to Class 4A was announced in December.
The new alignment will be in effect for four years, beginning in 2007-08 and ending in 2010-2011.
The Patriots' former home, Class 3A's Sectional 24, is now made up of Blackford, Delta, Mississinewa, Muncie Southside, Eastbrook and Yorktown.
South Adams will remain in Class 2A's Sectional 38, but the group will have a slightly different look.
The Starfires will still be joined by Adams Central, Bluffton and Woodlan. But, those four make a two-for-one trade with Heritage and Harding both moving up to Class 3A while Bishop Luers drops down to join them.
