CENTERVILLE — The Bulldogs only had one loss. Jay County was happy to give them a second.
The Patriot boys soccer team scored three times in the second half for a 3-2 victory Saturday to drop host Centerville to 6-2 on the season.
Jay County (5-4) erased a 1-0 halftime deficit as it scored three consecutive goals in the second half.
Ryan Wellman got the scoring started after Luke McClung took a direct kick seven minutes into the half. McClung’s boot went to Scott “Scooter” Bruggeman near the right post. Bruggeman’s shot ricocheted toward the left post, and Wellman was there to clean it up and tie the game at 1-1.
Bruggeman followed his miss with a couple of scores. The first came on a breakaway midway through the opening half as he shot inside the left post to give the Patriots the lead. He scored again with just under 15 minutes to play as he knocked in a header off another direct kick from McClung.
Centerville managed to get a score from Jeff Waters with five minutes to go, but could not pull even.
The other Bulldog goal came on a penalty kick by Chasen Dramer with 6:29 remaining in the opening half.
Jay County finished with seven shots on goal in the game, three from Bruggeman, compared to five for Centerville.[[In-content Ad]]
