MUNCIE - The Jay County High School girls golf team continued its excellent season Tuesday, overcoming some putting difficulties for a pair of wins.
The Patriots posted a score of 196 to win a three-team meet at Muncie Elks Golf Club. They finished ahead of the Yorktown Tigers (203) and the host Wes-Del Warriors (227).
JCHS is now 8-1 on the season, three victories short of matching the school record set in 2007, with its lone loss coming against No. 4 Richmond.
Cara Garringer finished strong Tuesday as Jay County played its best golf on the eighth and ninth holes, with every player shooting bogey or better on both.
Garringer turned in the lone birdie of the day for the Patriots on the par-5 eighth hole, and then posted her seventh bogey of the on the ninth hole. She earned medalist honors by one stroke with a 44.
Senior Jennifer Hunt was the only other JCHS golfer to break 50. She had pars on the par-3 second and par-4 third holes and also had three bogeys for a 48.
Ivy Simons and Rachel Osterholt each had four bogeys to shoot 51 and 53 respectively. Abby Denney, who parred the ninth hole, shot 55.
Jay County struggled on the greens, averaging 21.5 putts from its top four golfers. Yorktown posted three scores in the 40s, but fell to the Patriots by five strokes as their No. 4 score came in at 62.[[In-content Ad]]
