There was just one change in the Class 3A poll this week, and it involved Jay County.

All 10 ranked teams stayed undefeated, leaving the group intact. But there was a slight shift as the voters moved the Patriots up one spot.

Jay County switched places with Evansville Mater Dei, moving up to eighth in The Associated Press poll released today.

The Patriots, who topped Bellmont by 19 points Friday and Blackford by 18 Saturday to improve to 3-0, finished with 94 points to Mater Dei's 75. Wawasee, which Jay County defeated in the 2006 regional championship, was seventh with 104.

Defending state champion New Castle, which defeated JCHS in the 2006 state final, remained in the top spot with 11 of 12 first-place votes and 238 out of a possible 240 points. Evansville Bosse (199) was second.

The top teams in the other three classes remained the same with Indianapolis North Central in Class 4A, Forest Park in Class 2A and Barr-Reeve in Class A.

Jay County will look to post its best start in school history - 5-0 - this weekend when it visits Tipton Friday and South Adams Saturday.

The Patriot girls team (5-1) dropped out of the Class 3A poll by the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association this week. They were 14th in the voting last week, but slipped after falling 50-49 Nov. 26 to Bluffton.

Star grapplers win invite

Chase Sprunger (125) had an outstanding day as he was the only Starfire to wrestle five matches and win them all. Four of his wins came on pins, including a 19-second victory over Oscar Calderon of Union City.

Stephen Hirschy (215) went 4-1 for South Adams, scoring each of his victories with pins. Adding three wins apiece were Jim Marbach (130), John Striker (135), Dustin Ehr (152) and Josh Kimberlin (189).
