Jay wins big, loses 1st to Scots (04/21/08)

ANDERSON - The Patriots went from undefeated and dominant Friday night, to unable to keep Anderson Highland off the scoreboard.
Jay County High School's baseball team rolled in the first game of their Olympic Athletic Conference double-header 12-3 over the hosts Scots before suffering their first loss of the season 14-11 in the night cap.
Michael Jobe picked up his fifth win of the year in pitching the Patriots (7-1) to victory in the opener, striking out 11 in seven innings. He gave up three runs - two earned - one four hits and two walks. He also hit a solo home run.
For the season, the senior has a 1.31 ERA with 43 strikeouts in 32 innings.
Thomas McCowan and Billy Wellman led the offense, each joining Jobe with a home run. McCowan had two hits and four RBIs, and Wellman had two hits, two runs and two RBIs.
Michael Daniels added two hits and two runs, Nick Pryor drove in two runs, and Josh Ludy scored twice.
The Scots jumped on Jay County's pitching staff in the second game, taking control with a nine-run second inning. The Patriots scored four times in the second and fourth, but could not come back.
Phil Powell took the loss, giving up 11 runs on seven hits and four walks in 2 1/3 innings. Eric Homan and Trey Dunn each pitched 2 1/3 innings of relief.
Wellman homered two more times in the loss, driving in four runs and scoring twice. McCowan had a triple and a home run as he also finished with four RBIs. Dunn scored twice and had a stolen base, and Daniels doubled, stole a base and scored a run.[[In-content Ad]]
