Jay winter swimmers crush Bellmont (11/19/03)

The Jay County Winter Swim Team opened its dual meet season Monday with a dominating 297-215 victory over Bellmont. Jay County won 38 out of 48 individual races and 12 of 16 relays on the way to the easy win.
Cori Vormohr set the pace, adding two more team records to her resume.
She set a new mark in the 13-and-older 200-yard freestyle in a winning time of 2:09.85. Her other record came as she won the individual medley in 2:26.51.
Vormohr added a third victory in the 100-yard butterfly. Nine other swimmers also picked up three victories for Jay County on the evening.
Emilee and Alysha Miller teamed to dominate the 9-10-year-old girls events while Sam Miller and Alex Habegger, and John Gresla and Justin Klopp, did the same in the 11-12-year-old boys and 13-and-older boys divisions respectively.
Emilee Miller took her victories in the long freestyle, butterfly and breaststroke, and Alysha Miller won the backstroke individual medley and short freestyle.
Sam Miller captured wins in the long freestyle, backstroke and short freestyle, and Habegger was victorious in the butterfly, individual medley and breaststroke. Gresla was first in the long freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke, and Klopp won the butterfly, individual medley and short freestyle.
Annie Vormohr added three more wins in the 8-and-younger girls long freestyle, backstroke and individual medley. Daniel Velasco took first in the 8-and-younger boys butterfly, individual medley and breaststroke.
Richard Osterholt won the 9-10-year-old boys backstroke, individual medley and breaststroke.
Winning two events apiece for Jay County were Sophie Bader, Wiley Young and Briann Saxman. Alyssa Gair and Mitchell Kaverman each earned wins in one event.

Fort Recovery tickets for the 2003-04 basketball seasons are on sale.
Tickets are available in the high school office during regular office hours. Last year’s season-ticket holders have until Friday to renew their season tickets.
Season tickets for boys basketball are $50 for adults and $25 for students. For girls basketball they are $45 for adults and $25 for students.
Hockey league
The Wings-n-Wheels roller hockey league in Celina, Ohio is preparing for its third season.
The program is divided into two parts. There is a four-week camp for beginners and advanced players, and a 12-week regular season. The camp begins Dec. 2, and the regular season will start December 29.
The league is open to boys and girls in grades kindergarten through 12. There will also be an adult league for those ages 16-and-older this year.
Games are played at The Zone, which is located inside the Junior Fair Building at the Mercer Country Fairgrounds.
