Last week vs. Delta: The Class 4A No. 6 Eagles scored twice in the first four minutes of the game, had a 30-0 lead after one quarter and set a record for points scored against JCHS in a single half with 58. Delta pulled its starters at halftime, and the Patriots got a late touchdown from Blake Crouch to make the final score 58-7.
Season leaders: Passing — Brock McFarland - 1-of-6 for nine yards. Rushing — Blake Crouch - 12 carries for 66 yards and one touchdown, Cade Price - six carries for 36 yards. Receiving — Cody Slusher - one reception for nine yards.
Blackford Bruins
Hartford City, 0-1
Coach: Steve Rinker, first year
Conference: Central Indiana
Last week vs. Adams Central: Blackford jumped out to a 7-0 lead on a touchdown pass from Jordan Dailey to Trenton Detro, but got shut out in the final three quarters of a 29-7 loss to the Flying Jets.
Season leaders: Passing — Jordan Daily - 3-for-10 for 23 yards and one touchdown. Rushing — Evan West - 9 carries for 50 yards, Matt Lillard - 6 carries for 27 yards. Receiving — Trenton Detro - 1 reception for nine yards and one TD. Defense — Zach Stephens - 11 tackles.
Last season’s meeting: Jay County scored on each of its four first-half possessions on the way to clobbering the Bruins 43-13. Michael Daniels ran for 127 yards and three TDs, and Adam Coats added a 90-yard interception return for a TD.
Game notes: This will be JCHS coach Steve Boozier’s first time coaching against Blackford, where he coached for eight seasons ... Friday’s trip to Hartford City will be the Patriots’ only road game in the first seven weeks of the season. Their next road game will not be until Oct. 8 at Heritage ... The home team has won every game in the series since 2004.
