NOBLESVILLE - Down to their last game, the Patriots managed to salvage what could have been a lost Saturday.
Jay County rallied from a game down in its final match at the Noblesville Tournament, knocking off Guerin Catholic 21-25, 25-14, 15-11 for its only win of the day. It lost 30-28, 25-17 to Frankfort, 25-15, 25-19 to the host Millers and 25-23, 25-9 to Class A No. 3 Wes-Del.
Kelsey Wood shared the team high of 21 digs in the tournament with Chelsea Grady, with nine of that total coming in the victory. She also had 21 kills to go along with seven points and two aces.
Sarah Westgerdes had 16 kills and 10 points for the Patriots (7-9), and 10 of Amy Alig's 17 kills came in the victory. Kelci Reed totaled 16 points, including five aces, Kristi Morningstar had 17 points and Laura Castillo totaled 18 digs.
Ashley Langenkamp put up 36 assists.
Chief spikers win invite
The East Jay Middle School volleyball teams each turned in perfect 3-0 records Saturday to win the West Jay Invitational.
The Chief eighth graders won 25-13, 25-10 over South Adams, 25-11, 25-3 over the host Eagles and 25-12, 25-9 over Wes-Del. The EJMS seventh grade squad topped South Adams 25-8, 25-10, West Jay 24-25, 25-18, 15-13 and Wes-Del.
Hannah Ainsworth paced the East Jay eighth grade team with 37 points, and Rachelle Jackson added 30. Jill Dirksen had 10 assists, Sam Homan totaled nine kills and Paige Lennartz had eight digs.
FR gridders fall
MINSTER, Ohio - Fort Recovery High School's junior varsity football team fell 34-16 Saturday to the Minster Wildcats.
Perry Hull scored the first touchdown of the game for the Indians on a 50-yard run. Aaron Vagedes added a kickoff return for a score.
Shane Brunswick had two-point conversion plays on a pass to Ethan Schoenherr and a run.[[In-content Ad]]
