JC girls defeat Devils (04/11/07)
JCHS track
RICHMOND - It would seem the Jay County and Richmond girls track teams are evenly matched.
For the second straight season the meet between the Patriots and Red Devils was decided by a single point, and this time JCHS came out on top with a 66-65 triumph. Richmond won last season's battle, 62-61.
In boys track Tuesday, Jay County fell 72-55 to the Red Devils.
The Patriot girls needed every point they could get, including 10 big ones from Erika Hunt.
The junior was the lone double winner of the evening for the girls team as she dominated the hurdles. She won the 100-meter event in 17.15 seconds, and was first in the 300 hurdles at 53.8.
Amanda Johnson had one of Jay County's other four individual wins, taking the 400 dash in 1-minute, 4 seconds. She also teamed with Jess Mosier, Allison Fullenkamp and Tina Gingrasso for first in the 4x800 relay at 11:39.
Kylie Wellman ran to victory by nearly two minutes in the 3,200 run as she finished in 13:18. Adding field event wins were Lindsey Current with a 5-foot high jump and Sara Garringer with a toss of 81 feet, 7 inches in the discus.
Nicole Pfeifer, Janel Chittum, Sarah Mescher and Amber Cotherman also teamed for a time of 56.6 to win the 4x100 relay.
Brandon Reynard and Dexter Shreve each won a pair of individual events for the boys team.
Reynard was first in the 100 dash and 300 hurdles, and Shreve took the long jump and high jump. They also teamed with Lance Franklin and Mason Shreve to win the 4x400 relay.
