Local roundup

MUNCIE - Jay County kept its record even Tuesday.

The Patriot girls golf team finished in the middle of a three-team meet at Muncie Elks Golf Course Tuesday, posting a team score of 210.

The Yorktown Tigers won the meet with a score of 191 while the Wes-Del Warriors were third at 257.

Trisha Champ paced Jay County (4-4) with a 45, rebounding for a solid round after a difficult opening hole.

She had three pars and five bogeys over the final eight holes, playing the par-5s even.

Yorktown's Kelly Short was the match medalist with a 38. The best score for Wes-Del came from Kristen Woodsen, who shot 56.

Brittany Lewis jumped up for the No. 2 Patriot score, totaling four bogeys in a round of 52. Jennifer Hunt added a 56, and Ashley Bunch and Miranda Denney each finished at 57.

JV football dominates

MUNCIE - Six different Patriots scored touchdowns and the defense stood strong Tuesday as the Jay County junior varsity football team thrashed the Muncie Southside Rebels 48-0.

The biggest play of the night came in the second quarter when an alert Dalton McGill took advantage of the snoozing Rebels. Southside tried to throw a screen pass, but it fell incomplete. But since it was a backward pass the ball remained live, and McGill picked it up and ran for a 96-yard touchdown and a 32-0 halftime lead.

Sam Lyons (78 yards) added a 27-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, and Alan Brown (101 yards), Sha White, John Hawn and Nick Pryor all added scoring runs of five yards or fewer. Brown had three two-points conversion runs, and White, Lyons and Pryor each added one.

Lyons also had an interception, and the defense gave up just five first downs in the victory.[[In-content Ad]]
