A slow start to the season didn’t keep the Jay County golf team down for very long.
The Patriots added two more wins Thursday with a score of 170. They defeated Bellmont (172) and Bluffton (204) to improve to 5-3 on the season.
It was a complete team effort for the Patriots, with Alex Hunt and Adam Foster sharing the team-best score of 42. Jesse Shawver and Tyler Johnston were right behind them, matching each other with scores of 43.
Bellmont’s Nate Reinking was the match medalist, hitting the clubhouse with a 40.
Jay County will play in the Delaware Invitational Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
Patriots’ slump continues
It was another game and another shutout for the Jay County softball team Wednesday.
The Patriots got just one hit as Anderson Highland smashed them in their final Olympic Athletic Conference game of the season 15-0. They finished 2-6 in the conference and dropped to 5-15 overall.
Jay County trailed just 1-0 after two innings, but gave up 14 runs over the next three for an early finish. Ashley Cook took the loss, allowing 15 runs — 10 earned — on 20 hits.
Felisha Parr had the only hit for the Patriots.
Jay County will play again today at Coldwater at 4:30 p.m.
Jay JV stomps South
Jay County’s junior varsity baseball team had a big day at the plate Thursday, pounding Muncie Southside for an 18-7 victory.
The Patriots got four hits each from Christy Burke, Miranda Betz and Andrea Current in the contest. Chelsea DeBoy had five RBIs, Current had three and Jamie Walker added two.
Betz scored four times, and Current and Burke each scored three runs.
Joyce Bumbalough earned the complete-game win.
Ja-Mar rolls
Ja-Mar T.V. and Appliance clobbered MainSource Bank in Portland Junior League Willie Mays League action Thursday, 31-4.
Kyle Cline had four hits, including two doubles, for Ja-Mar, and Matthew Segraves followed with four hits, including one double. Isaac Bruggeman, Brenda Reed, Justen Keller, Cody Bellis, Jacob McGraw and Brad Brinkerhoff each added two hits.
Brendan Reed earned the victory.
