JC grad Prescott continues success (09/04/03)

Professional jockey Rodney Prescott, a former Jay County resident, is off to a fast start during the fall thoroughbred meet at Hoosier Park in Anderson.

Prescott, 29, who has been among the top jockeys a few Midwest tracks for several years, won four races and finished in the top three a total of 17 times during the opening four nights of racing (Friday through Monday).

In 35 starts so far at Hoosier Park, Prescott’s horses have taken second place nine times and third place four times, earning total purses of $47,675. Jockeys are paid a percentage of each winning purse.

Live racing at Hoosier Park continues tonight, with post time for the first race at 6 p.m. There is live racing Wednesday through Sunday.

Hummel starting

Jay County graduate Cameron Hummel has been slated as the starting quarterback for the Rose-Hulman Cougars.

Hummel tossed a touchdown pass to lead his squad to a 14-3 victory in the school’s Rose and White intrasquad game last week. He and the Cougars will take on Earlham College at Richmond High School to open the season Saturday at 7 p.m.[[In-content Ad]]
