INDIANAPOLIS - The Patriots keep climbing their way back toward the top. An eight-game winning streak will do that.

The Jay County boys basketball team crushed Union City 57-27 Saturday for its eighth straight win, then moved up one spot from seventh to sixth in this week's Class 3A poll released Monday by The Associated Press.

The streak is the second longest current run in Class 3A, only trailing undefeated and No. 1 Edgewood (17-0). No. 3 Roncalli (17-1) and No. 8 Washington (16-3) have also won eight in a row.

The Patriots (15-3), who host Norwell (10-6) tonight, earned 110 points in this week's poll. They are 20 behind No. 5 Connersville (14-3), a team they lost to 47-43 in overtime Jan. 12, and 15 ahead of seventh-ranked Bishop Dwenger (15-3).

Jay County's only other losses this year came against Class 4A No. 1 Muncie Central (17-2) and Centerville (12-6).
