DECATUR - South Adams and Jay County runners took the top two spots at Tuesday's Bellmont Invitational. Their teams did the same, but in reverse order.

Aly Miller was the runner-up to lead the Patriot girls cross country team to victory with 54 points. Hannah Moore won the race as the Starfires finished second overall with 56.

Fort Wayne North Side was third with 83 in the eight-team field.

In the boys competition, South Adams finished third out of eight teams with 82 points. Jay County was sixth with 187 while North Side (30) won and the host Braves (44) placed second.

Moore dominated the field to win by 32 seconds, but her effort was no enough to overcome the Patriots' five runners in the top 17.

She won the race in 20-minutes, 18.24 seconds with Miller, who improved by 41 seconds over Saturday's Celina Rotary Invitational, followed in 20:50.47.

Senior Kyle Wellman was second for Jay County (14-2), finishing eighth overall in 21:49. Katie Simmons, a freshman, just missed a top-10 effort as she finished 11th in 22:11.16.

Kari Hemmelgarn and Cassie Laux finished back-to-back in 16th and 17th to complete the Patriots team score in times of 22:51 and 23:07.59 respectively.

Allison Beitler trailed Moore for South Adams (13-2) in sixth place in 21:30. Sawyer Shane added a third top-10 finish in 22:08, Taylor Miller was 15th at 22:42 and Carson Shane took 24th in 23:37.

Nathan Rupp was the lone top-10 runner for South Adams (11-4), placing third in 17:24. Aaron Lehman was 13th in 18:14, Sam Heckard took 16th in 18:23, Gabe Sprunger finished 24th at 19 minutes flat and Josh Armenta placed 37th with a time of 19:50.
