MUNCIE — Having more than a week off didn’t help the Patriots Saturday.
Jay County’s volleyball team, which had not played since Sept. 22, dropped all three of its matches at the Olympic Athletic Conference tournament at Muncie Wilson Middle School Saturday. It lost 25-23, 25-23 to Connersville, 25-16, 25-23 to Anderson Highland and 25-11, 25-20 to Muncie Southside to drop to 5-20 on the season.
Senior Kelly Sautbine led the Patriots in digs and aces on the day with 19 and 10 respectively. Five of those aces came against Highland, and she was also the only Jay County player to post double-digit digs in a game with 11 versus Highland.
She also finished second on the team with 10 kills in the three-match tournament.
Erica Clark followed with seven aces, and also put up 38 assists. Shelby Rines had 11 kills, Markie Runyon totaled 10 kills and Theresa Reinhart finished with nine kills and 16 digs.
Jay County’s junior varsity squad managed one win in the OAC tournament, defeating Highland 25-11, 25-21. In other matches it lost to Southside 25-23, 25-15 and Connersville 25-11, 25-23.
Sharon Dirksen led the Patriots in their victory with team highs of eight assists and three aces. She also had three kills and one dig.
Julie Alig added seven kills.
Dirksen had a team-best 15 assists on the day, and shared the team high of four aces with Alig and Amber Cotherman. Alig also had 10 digs. Sarah Westgerdes finished with 10 kills and four blocks.[[In-content Ad]]
