Junior League
Kyle Davidson had some heroics in him Friday night.
PG-14 rallied for a 12-11 win over Pak-A-Sak in the bottom of the sixth inning thanks to Davidson’s game-winning hit.
The only other Portland Junior League Willie Mays League game on the night saw Portland Optimist top Vance Heating and Cooling 17-3.
Davidson led his team’s offense, finishing with a pair of hits. Parker May also had two hits.
Kyle Markle had two hits, including a home run, for Pak-A-Sak.
Optimist 17, Vance 3
Brian Walker smacked a couple of hits in the Optimist victory.
Vance got a triple from Matt Taylor.
JR drops opener
The Jay-Randolph American Legion Baseball Team lost its opening game of the season 10-4 Friday to New Castle despite four innings of no-hit baseball from former Jay County Patriot Mitch Waters.
Waters started the game and faced just one batter more than the minimum through four innings. He was lifted with a 3-0 lead because it was his first game on the mound after a long layoff.
New Castle came back against three JR relievers despite getting only three hits in the contest. It scored six times in the sixth inning as the JR defense fell apart on the way to an eight-error contest.

Community and Family Services held its Hoosier Hoopfest tournaments this weekend with 56 teams participating in the 2-on-2 contest in six divisions.
The winning teams were: Aaron Emerick, Portland, and Chase Johnson, Bryant in the 10-and-under division; Gabriel Detro and Neal Beshears, Winchester, in the 11-12-year-old division; Brett Wagner, Berne, and Aaron Wilhelm, Portland, in the 13-14-year-old division; Brody Tarter and Ben West, Winchester, in the 15-17-year-old division; Destry Lee and Chad Chalafant, Muncie, in the 16-18-year-old division; Chris Snow and Daniel Newhouse, Portland, and Seth Kay and Perry Nash, Ridgeville, in the 19-30-year-old division, and Donnie Schlosser and Doug Jackson, Portland, in the 30-and-older division.
