2008 in review: Jay County had a high-octane offense, but also struggled to stop teams on defense. The Patriots scored at least 20 points in every game and cleared 30 six times, but gave up 40 or more points seven times as they finished 3-7. They closed the season with three straight losses, including 47-33 to Marion the opening round of the sectional tournament. The team suffered its first losing season since going 3-7 in 2004.

Returning leaders: Rushing - Michael Daniels - 100 carries for 581 yards and five TDs. Receiving - Ben Vance - 14 receptions for 196 yards and seven TDs. Defense - Colton Prescott - 27 tackles.

Delta Eagles

Coach: Grant Zgunda, 17th year

Conference: Hoosier Heritage

2008 in review: The Eagles blew through most of their schedule, scoring 40 or more points in eight or their nine regular-season games and all three sectional wins. They won the Hoosier Heritage Conference title and were 12-0 before falling 49-20 to Bishop Dwenger in the regional championship game.

Returning leaders: Rushing - Sean Gardner - Tedd Dawson - 74 carries for 611 yards and 11 TDs. Receiving - Logan Young - 32 receptions for 915 yards and 11 TDs, Dawson - 11 receptions for 305 yards and three TDs. Defense - Jacob Smedley - 108 tackles, four sacks, two interceptions, Jordan Anderson - 86 tackles, six sacks, one interception.

Last meeting: Turnovers were crushing for Jay County in their 47-28 season-opening loss to the Eagles. The Patriots gave the ball way four times. Two of those came at the goal line, and another led to a Delta touchdown in the closing seconds of the opening half. Billy Wellman led JCHS as he ran for 113 yards and completed 13 passes for 149 yards. Dexter Shreve had four catches for 80 yards. Delta got 147 rushing yards on 22 carries from Kyle Stevens. Quarterback Brooks Medaris tossed for 236 yards on just eight completitions.

Game notes: This will be fans' first look at Jay County's new 3-4 defense. The team allowed 43.1 points per game last season. ...
