A quartet of Patriots turned in quick victories led the Jay County High School boys tennis team to a 4-1 victory Thursday over the visiting Winchester Golden Falcons.
Phil Powell (8-7) pushed his record above .500 with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Dusty Grubbs. Kyle Simmons (13-3) pushed his winning streak to 13 matches in a row with a 6-1, 6-2 domination of Gabe Detro at No. 2 singles.
Tylor Smith and Sam Miller (3-12) also made quick work at No. 2 doubles with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Dalton Kramer and Noah Berry.
At No. 1 doubles Jared Valentine and Adam Horn pulled even at 8-8 this year with a 7-6 (8-6), 6-3 victory over Neal Beshears and Grant Cox.
The lone loss of the evening for the Patriots (9-4) came from Chase Wellman, who slipped to 10-6 with a 7-5, 6-3 defeat against Quenton Fair at No. 3 singles.
Junior varsity
The Patriots scored a 3-2 victory over Winchester.
Brad Leuthold was in control at No. 1 singles, topping Matt Hinds 8-3. Seth Ainsworth and Austin Cowan won by the same score over Reny Keener and Daniel Wallace at No. 2 doubles.
Matt Shrack turned in the third JCHS victory by beating Terry Ogle 8-6 at No. 3 singles.
