SELMA — Zane Shreve scored two goals as the Jay County boys soccer team shut out the host Wapahani Raiders Tuesday, 3-0.
Shreve’s first goal came one minute after Alex Abbott put the Patriots on the scoreboard in the 33rd minute.
With five minutes left in the second half, Shreve found twine for his second goal from 8-yards out.
The Patriots (3-4-2), who have won back-to-back games after picking up just one victory in their first seven, racked up 18 shots on goal.
Zach Chaney made three stops in the shutout.
Jay County returns to the pitch at 5 p.m. Thursday on the road at Bellmont.

Jets defeat Patriots
MONROE — The host Adams Central Flying Jets defeated the Jay County High School boys tennis team 5-0 Tuesday.
No. 1 and No. 2 singles players Nick Leuthold and Jake Shwieterman lost to Jacob Well and Eric Ripley respectively with identical 6-1, 6-0 scores.
The Jets’ Andy Oliver defeated Jay County’s Kody Degler 6-2, 6-0 in No. 3 singles.
Jay County’s No. 1 and No. 2 doubles teams’ three-match winning streak came to an end against Adams Central.

Josh Lykins and Zach Pryor fell to Ben Kaehr and Connor Lengerich 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles. In No. 2 doubles action, Alex Krieg and Evan Mathias fell to Adams Central’s Nate Timmons and Jared Lehman 7-5, 1-6, 6-2.

Jay County’s final match of the season is at 5 p.m., Oct. 1 at home against Bellmont.

Willis continues medal streak
NEW HAVEN — Sydney Willis shot an even 36 to earn her 15th consecutive match medalist honor as the South Adams girls golf team defeated New Haven 193-228 on Tuesday at Whispering Creek Golf Club.
Willis bogeyed the par-4 10th hole and the par-4 13th, but rebounded to birdie the par-3 14th and par-4 16th holes. She has been the medalist in every match this season.
Kellie Lehman posted a score of 51 for the Starfires, who improve to 17-2 on the season.
Alleigh Wingler, Jaci Gorrell and Alaina Johnston all posted identical scores of 53 for South Adams.

FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery High School volleyball team fell in straight games Tuesday to the New Bremen Cardinals 25-16, 25-14, 25-22.
Kendra Siefring led the Indians (7-6, 1-3 Midwest Athletic Conference) with seven kills, while Cassidy Rammel and Tori Lennartz each added three.
Sierra Pugh recorded a team-high 12 assists and Rammel added four assists and two aces.
Siefring and Lennartz each tallied six digs.
The Fort Recovery junior varsity team improved to 4-6 on the season, defeating the Cardinals 25-19, 16-25, 25-23.
Abby Wenning and Kristen Jutte led the Fort Recovery offense with seven kills and six kills respectivley, while Rachel Kaup added six aces. Kaup posted a team-high 14 digs, and Jutte also had 10 assists.[[In-content Ad]]
