MARION - The top two teams far outdistance the field. But the Patriots were in the mix with the next group.
Jay County High School's girls golf team finished fifth, just three strokes out of third place, in the Marion Invitational Monday at Shady Hills Golf Course. It scored a 413 to finish three behind Logansport and two back of Yorktown.
Huntington North crushed the 13-team field with a score of 331, and the host Giants were second at 391.
Sophomore Cara Garringer matched her career-best score of 96 to lead the Patriots. Jennifer Hunt and Rachel Osterholt, both seniors, followed her at 103 and 106 respectively.
Abby Denney rounded out the team score with a 108, and Macey Gerber finished at 111.
