JCHS girls tennis
DEKALB - Jay County High School's girls tennis team placed sixth Saturday at the DeKalb Invitational.
Northwood won the eight-team event, with the host Barons in second.
Hannah McAbee had the top finish for the Patriots thanks to her victory in the opening round. The senior defeated Triton's Molly Kauffman 6-3, 6-1, and then suffered losses against DeKalb and Blackford to finish fourth at No. 2 singles.
Jay County lost the remainder of its first-round matches.
Brittany White, playing at No. 3 singles, and the teams of Megan Huntsman and Briann Saxman, and Emily Huntsman and Becky Muhlenkamp, all came through with victories in each of their final two matches to place fifth.
White, playing varsity for the first time this year, dropped a second-set tiebreaker against Snider's Danielle Williams before bouncing back to win the super tiebreaker for a 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), (10-5) victory.
She went on to top Blackford's Alisha McGahey 8-4.
Megan Huntsman and Saxman dominated their final two matches at No. 1 doubles, crushing Blackford's Jennifer Milikan and Katelyn Freel 6-1, 6-1. They took the fifth-place match 8-0 over Hope Daniel and Ja'nisha Redmond of Snider.
At No. 2 doubles, Muhlenkamp and Emily Huntsman beat Snider's Sierra Daniel and Mallory Erans 6-2, 6-1 in the second round and knocked off Lindsee Fancher and Whitney Hepner of Blackford 8-1 in the third.
Kayla Martin finished 0-3 on the day at No. 1 singles.
