JCHS blanks Knights (08/24/07)

JCHS boys tennis

FOUNTAIN CITY - The temperatures were hot, and so were the Patriots.

Jay County's boys tennis team picked up its first shutout win of the season Thursday, topping the host Northeastern Knights 5-0.

The top two singles players - Josh Ludy and Phil Powell - each gave up just one game in their victories. Ludy defeated Dale Milnes 6-0, 6-1 to improve to 5-1 at No. 1 singles, and Powell earned his first victory of the season at No. 2 doubles 6-1, 6-0 over Mitch Baumer.

Kyle Simmons evened his record at 3-3 by topping Jacob Terhaar 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.

At No. 2 doubles Mark Alberson and Adam Horn continued their torrid start to the year, running their undefeated streak to six matches. They knocked off Alan Hinshaw and Travis Lakes 6-4, 6-4.

Thomas McCowan and Heather Rigby (2-4) defeated Jordan Ross and Dalton Milnes 6-2, 6-4.

Jay County improved to 2-1 with the victory. Northeastern is 0-3.

Junior varsity

Chase Wellman and Jared Valentine teamed for a doubles shutout, blanking Cody Tomlinson and Lucas Fleming 6-0.

In singles matches Wellman defeated Zeth Ellis 8-6, and Valentine lost 8-4 to Derek Blunk.[[In-content Ad]]
