JCHS breaks record (08/29/07)
JCHS girls golf
WINCHESTER - The Patriots have been waiting for that one day when everyone would be on top of their game at the same time. It happened Tuesday.
The Jay County High School girls golfers posted three personal-best scores, bettering their best total of the year by 16 strokes and setting a new school record in the process with a 176-220 victory over the Winchester Golden Falcons.
Jennifer Hunt, Cara Garringer and Ivy Simons all finished with career-best rounds at Winchester Golf Course, and senior Trisha Champ led the team with a 40.
A day after scoring 50 in competition for the first time, Hunt made the half-century mark a distant memory. The junior was 4-over-par after three holes before going on a run to kick-start her round.
Hunt parred the 372-yard, par-5 fourth hole on the Pony nine at Winchester, and added two more pars on the 304-yard, par-4 sixth and 296-yard, par-4 seventh. Two bogies capped her round with a 44.
Garringer, a freshman, did her teammate one better, improving on her previous top score by seven strokes. She also played even on No. 4, but her big run came at the finish.
She tallied pars on No. 7 and No. 8 - a 118-yard, par-3 - and finished with a bogey for a 45.
Champ earned medalist honors with another consistent round. She started with six consecutive pars and finished with back-to-back bogies to finish at 4-over-par.
Like Hunt and Garringer, Simons was also at her best. She turned in her lone par on the 118-yard, par-3 third hole and added six bogeys to match her best career score of 47.
The Patriots, who are now 4-1 in dual meets, had four of the top five scores on the evening, with only Shantel Short breaking in with a 46 for Winchester. Grace Wallace shot 52 for the Golden Falcons, followed by Ashley Miller and Janelle Yaryan.
Rachel Osterholt was the No. 5 scorer for Jay County with a 53, one off of her career-best score.
Junior varsity
Every player on the Patriot team posted a career-best score for a total of 207. Winchester did not have a JV squad.
Abbey Denney led the Jay County effort, knocking three strokes off of her previous top score as she finished at 50. Brittney Schlater added a 41, and Alex Bunch and Macey Gerber finished off the team score with matching 53s.
Amy Nichols shot 58, Anneliese Jetmore had a 61 and Holly Rittenhouse finished at 62.[[In-content Ad]]
