JCHS cheerleaders bring home honors (07/19/05)

Jay County High School’s varsity cheerleaders brought back honors from a four-day camp at the University of Kentucky last week.

The Patriot cheer team placed fourth in the extreme routine competition for small varsity.

Seniors Brandyn Monroe, Heather Stevens, and Holly Taylor received the camp’s All-Star award, getting a medal and an invitation to travel to London to participate in a New Year’s parade.

Monroe also was encouraged to apply to be a Universal Cheerleaders Association instructor.

A total of 680 cheerleaders attended the camp in Lexington, sponsored by the Universal Cheerleaders Association.

They received instruction in cheers, sideline events, partner stunts, jumps, dance, and game situation cheering. The JCHS squad received a blue ribbon in daily evaluations and the spirit stick award.

Varsity cheerleaders are seniors Brandyn Monroe, Jessica Howell, Heather Stevens, and Holly Taylor, juniors Kelsey Bone, Kristin Brown, Kayla Cline, and Cortney Taylor, and sophomores Erika Hunt and Amanda Johnson.[[In-content Ad]]
