JCHS freshmen fall to Trojans

The Patriots rallied from an early deficit only to fall short in the closing seconds.
Jay County High School’s freshman boys basketball team missed a shot at the buzzer Tuesday as it fell 27-25 to the visiting New Castle Trojans.
The Patriots (11-5) gave up the first nine points of the game before clawing back to within two at the half. They led by one late, but New Castle hit a 3-pointer with 15 seconds left to take the victory.
Adam Dirksen paced Jay County with 13 points, and Bowen Runyon followed with nine.
On Thursday, the Patriots led Huntington North by seven at halftime before struggling in the third quarter and then bouncing back to win 36-35 in double overtime. Kyler Carvel led the victory with 13 points, and Dirksen added 12.

WJ falls to Northside
West Jay Middle School’s girls basketball teams each suffered losses Tuesday to Muncie Northside. The eighth grade team fell 29-21, and the seventh graders lost 27-17.
Kyndal Miller scored six points for the Eagle eighth graders, who finished the season 7-9. Samantha Back and Courtney Cox added two points apiece.
Hanna Ault finished with seven points to lead the seventh grade team. Kady Finnerty followed with four points.
On Saturday, the WJMS seventh graders defeated Richmond Dennis in the opening game of the Jay Community Central Boomer Invitational before falling 27-12 to East Jay in the championship game. Ault led the Eagles in both games with 16 and eight points respectively.

Eagle grapplers lose
UNION CITY — The West Jay wrestling team picked up three contested wins Tuesday as it fell 72-24 to host Westside.
Nick Overla (HWT) scored the fastest of those victories as he won by pin in just 26 seconds. Tristan Miller (95) added a pin in 45 seconds, and Keagen Kane (145) won his match with a pin in 1 minute, 20 seconds.
In junior varsity action, Andrew Levasseur (152) turned in a pin in 2:30.

East Jay 6th rolls
YORKTOWN — East Jay’s sixth grade girls basketball team dominated the Yorktown Tigers 37-17 on Tuesday.
Kendra Muhlenkamp reached double figures with 10 points for the Chiefs. Hanna Dillon added eight points, and Klarisa Hemmelgarn scored eight.
East Jay won the B team game 10-4 with Gwen Omstead and Sarah Walter scoring four points apiece.

Miles finishes 2nd
INDIANAPOLIS — Courtney Miles picked up a second-place finish to lead a group of Jay County gymnasts who competed for Marion’s Mid-America Gymnastics at the Judges Cup on Saturday and Sunday.
Miles finished as the runner-up on the 12-year-old Level 7 balance beam with a 9.05. She also had a 9.4 to finish fourth on the vault in the meet at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.
Riley Leavel put up a career-best score of 9.1 to finish sixth on the uneven bars. Hannah Outcalt was sixth on the vault with a 9.2 and also added career-best scores on the beam (8.85) and in the all-around (33.7). Halle Hill posted her top score with a 9.15 on the vault.[[In-content Ad]]
