ANDERSON - Call them the favorites.

Jay County High School's girls swim established themselves as the team to beat at this year's Olympic Athletic Conference meet, obliterating the league-rival Anderson Highland Scots 202-112 Thursday night. The boys team got a record-breaking effort from Sam Miller, but lost 198.5-106.5.

Senior Cori Vormohr and freshman Mary Hudson each won a pair of events to lead the Patriots (4-0) to the big win over Highland, which won the 2008 OAC title by more than 60 points.

Vormohr led a top-three sweep in the 100-yard butterfly, winning by 10 seconds over teammate Maddie Fennig in 1-minute, 4.28 seconds. Marissa Murrell was third, and Rachel Osterholt added a fifth-place effort.

The other victory for Vormohr came with a time of 2:20.80 in the 200 individual medley, which was 21 seconds faster than the Scots' Sarah Buck.

Hudson eked out tight wins in both of her events, beating Buck in the 100 breaststroke by just two hundredths of a second in 1-minute, 13.64 seconds. She was also first by less than a half second in the 100 freestyle at 59.31.

Vormohr, Hudson, Eme Miller and Briann Saxman took first place in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:50.31, and Vormohr, Saxman, Eme Miller and Michelle Landfair finished in 4:08.13 to win the 400 freestyle relay.

Sam Miller broke the Jay County school record in the 100 butterfly with a time of 53.33. The old record was held by 2003 JCHS graduate Kyle Weaver.

Miller's other win came in the 50 freestyle by just six hundredths of a second over Highland's Hunter Hoffman in 22.35.

Steven Kelly turned in the only other victory for the JCHS boys. He won the diving competition with a new career-best score of 220.95.

Megan Taylor picked up her first career victory in diving with a score of 190.6. April Acker was second at 185.8.

Eme Miller earned the other Patriot victory, taking the 200 freestyle in 2:14.34.

Chance Milligan and Aaron Hudson added second-place efforts for the boys team (1-1).[[In-content Ad]]
