BLUFFTON - The Patriots are 11-1, again.
Jay County High School's girls golf team matched the school record set last season, defeating both Southern Wells and Blackford Tuesday.
The Patriots matched the JCHS mark for winning percentage (.917) as they posted a 197 at Timber Ridge Golf Course, where they will return Saturday for sectional play. Southern Wells was second with a 221, and Blackford was third at 246.
The record prior to last season was 12-2 (.857) set by the 1990 squad.
Sophomore Abby Denny led Jay County to the double victory, leading off her round with a par on the opening hole. She recorded the lone Patriot birdie of the day on the par-3 sixth, and also had two bogeys as she earned medalist honors with a 47.
Kelsey Bonewit was the top scorer for Southern Wells at 48, and Carly Foy led Blackford with a 56.
Cara Garringer, also a sophomore, joined Denney in breaking 50 for JCHS. She had played even on the par-4 third hole and the par-5 seventh and and also had four bogeys on the way to a 49.
Senior Jennifer Hunt turned in five bogeys for a 50, and her classmate Rachel Osterholt had a par and two bogeys in a round of 51. Ivy Simons finished with three bogeys for a 55.
Jay County's only loss this season came against sixth-ranked Richmond.
