The Patriots dominated the opening game of their tournament Saturday, but couldn’t keep up with the Bulldogs in the championship.
Jay County defeated the Cowan Blackhawks 5-0 in the first game of the Patriot Invitational before falling 10-1 to New Haven in the title game. New Haven reached the championship with a victory over Tippecanoe Valley.
Dustin Selvey cruised on the mound against Cowan as he had a no-hitter through three innings. He went the distance, striking out five batters while allowing just three hits in the shutout.
Alex Dunn and Ryan Miskinis each went 2-for-3 with a run. Ty Huntsman added two hits, and Kyle Selvey had a hit and a run.
New Haven scored at least one run in each of the first six innings in the championship game. Ty Huntsman took the loss, giving up eight runs — five earned — on five hits and four walks in five innings.
Andy Haffner scored the only run for JCHS (5-15) and finished 2-for-2 at the plate.
On Friday, Miskinis hit a home run and Andre Duke went 4-for-4 as Jay County fell 13-4 to the visiting Monroe Central Golden Bears.

Softball splits with Devils
RICHMOND — Jay County took the opening game of a doubleheader 3-0 Saturday over the Richmond Red Devils before falling 6-1 in the second game.
Lexie Gierhart led the victory with a single, a double, a run and an RBI. Rachelle Jackson had two hits, and Chelsea Tighe added a hit and a run.
Jackson got the win, striking out three in a two-hit shutout.
Katie Aker had a triple, and Jackson scored a run in the second game. Nikka Chaney gave up five hits and six walks in the loss.[[In-content Ad]]
