INDIANAPOLIS - Jay County's lucky number is seven - for this week anyway.

The Patriots won their seventh straight game Thursday, defeating the Delta Eagles 47-44. The result was a jump of two more positions, to No. 7, in this week's Class 3A poll by The Associated Press.

Jay County (14-3), which was ranked ninth in the previous poll, picked up 125 poll points. Batesville (15-2) is ranked sixth with 135 points, and Wawasee (12-3), the team the Patriots defeated for the 2006 regional title at Blackford, is eighth with 98.

Edgewood (16-0) earned the top spot in the poll for the second straight week ahead of defending state champion New Castle (17-2).

The Patriots will look for their eighth straight win when they host Union City (11-6) Friday at 6:30 p.m. They will follow with games at home against Norwell and at Monroe Central to close out the regular-season schedule.

Top teams in the Class 4A and Class 2A polls remained the same with Franklin Central (18-1) and Forest Park (16-1) respectively. Oregon-Davis (17-1) took over the No. 1 ranking in Class A with 270 points, just two ahead of previously top-ranked Hauser (15-2).
