MUNCIE - The Patriots finished in the top three in 10 events. But their one victory was not enough to keep up with the Tigers.
Yorktown won five events, including a pair of relays, to take first place Saturday at the Muncie Southside Invitational. Jay County's girls track team was second with 116 points, well ahead of third-place Muncie Central (77).
Freshman Katie Simmons brought home the Patriots' lone victory, dominating the field in the 3,200-meter run. She finished in 12-minutes, 17.38 seconds to win by more than 16 seconds.
Simmons was also third in the 1,600 run in 5:37.39, and teamed with Katie Butcher, Kylie Wellman and Leah Wellman to place second in the 4x800 relay in 10:45.37.
Sophomore Jordan McMillan finished the 100 dash in 13.02 to take second place. She was also fourth in both the 200 dash in 27.3 and the long jump at 14 feet, 7 ½ inches.
Maria Murphy, a freshman, earned one of the four individual runner-up finishes for JCHS. She was less than two feet away from victory in the discus with a toss of 99 feet, 11 inches, and placed third in the shot put at 33 feet, 2.5 inches.
