JCHS rebounds vs. Knights (04/20/07)

OSSIAN - It's been a good week for the Patriots to bounce back on the diamond.
The JCHS baseball team recovered for a victory Wednesday over Wayne, just a day after being run-ruled by the Class 3A No. 3 Norwell Knights. Jay County's softball team followed that lead Thursday, rebounding after being no-hit Wednesday at Huntington North for an 11-0, five-inning domination of host Norwell.
The Patriots (3-3) had just a 1-0 lead through three innings before exploding for four runs in the fourth inning and six more in the fifth.
Freshman Pazia Speed continued her hot hitting to lead JCHS, finishing 2-for-2 with two doubles, three runs and two RBIs. Senior Ashley Bunch also had two hits to go with a run and an RBI, and freshman Lindsey Wellman had a double, a run and an RBI.
Shae Keller earned her second victory of the year, shutting out the Knights (2-2) on four hits and one walk. She struck out three batters.
Jay County lost the junior varsity contest 4-1. Caitlin Gilbert and Shelby Gierhart each had two hits.
Fort falls to 'Skins
FORT RECOVERY - After picking up their first Midwest Athletic Conference win Tuesday, Fort Recovery slipped back to 1-3 in the league with a 10-1 loss Thursday to the St. Henry Redskins.
The Tribe (6-3) trailed 10-0 before putting up its only run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Bobby Rammel took the loss, allowing six runs - five earned - in 42/3 innings. He gave up six hits and three walks while striking out six.
Rammel was also responsible for Fort Recovery's only run as he finished 2-for-3 with a double. Clint Tobe finished with a double and an RBI.
St. Henry tops Tribe
ST. HENRY - The Fort Recovery softball team dropped its fifth straight game Thursday, losing 18-9 to the St. Henry Redskins.
The Tribe (1-6, 0-2 Midwest Athletic Conference) looked good early, taking a 5-0 lead in the first inning. But St. Henry claimed control with a nine-run fourth and put the game away with a seven-run fifth.
Kinsey Wenning gave up 15 runs - 11 earned - on eight hits and 10 walks in 42/3 innings for the loss.
Heather Schmackers had one of the Tribe's two extra-base hits, a triple, as she drove in four runs and scored twice. Val Fortkamp and Jodi Tobe each had a pair of hits, and Joanna Snyder scored two runs.
FR JV still winless
ST. HENRY - Fort Recovery's junior varsity baseball team is still looking for its first victory after a 2-0 loss Thursday to the St. Henry Redskins.
The Indians (0-6, 0-3 Midwest Athletic Conference) managed five hits, but could not push a run home. A.J. Backs went 2-for-3 with a double in the defeat.
Backs took the loss, despite giving up just a single unearned run on seven hits and two walks. He finished with six strikeouts.

FORT RECOVERY - More than half of the St. Henry Redskins' runs were unearned as they handed the Fort Recovery junior varsity softball team a 14-2 loss Thursday.
Shelby Vaughn took the loss, giving up 13 runs - six earned - on 11 hits and 12 walks. The Tribe (1-6) committed four errors.
Amy Hart finished with a single, a run and a stolen base to lead the Indian offense. Lorraine Shier scored the team's only other run.[[In-content Ad]]
