JCHS second at invite
JCHS girls cross country
UNION CITY — For the second straight year, Jay County and Tri engaged in a tight battle at the Union City Invitational. This time, the Titans came out on top.
Despite placing five runners in the top 11, the Patriot cross country team finished as the runners-up with 35 points. Tri scored 32 points to halt JCHS’s five-year winning streak at the event.
Katie Simmons led Jay County in fourth place with a time of 21 minutes, 20 seconds, and Leah Wellman was just three seconds behind her in fifth place. Eme Miller took seventh in 21:33, Abigail Johnson was ninth in 22:09 and Logan Laux finished 11th in 22:20.
Chaz Carroll finished 39th for the Patriot boys in 22:36, and Zack Johnson was 43rd with a time of 24:25.
FR girls fourth
EATON, Ohio — The Fort Recovery girls scored a fourth-place finish out of 13 teams at Saturday’s Eaton Invitational while the boys finished ninth out of 15.
Abby May paced the Tribe girls with her 16th-place finish in 21 minutes, 22 seconds. Elle Sutter and Jessica Vogel finished 26th and 27th in 21:50 and 22:06 respectively, Nicole Heitkamp was 32nd in 22:37 and Samantha Tobe placed 39th in 22:56.
Ryan Heitkamp matched May’s effort with a 16th-place finish in 18:00 for the FRHS boys. Caleb Heitkamp was 44th in 18:53 followed by Derek Sutter (45th - 18:57), Nathan Fullenkamp (47th - 19:00) and Calvin Kaiser (60th - 19:24).
Caitlyn Huelskamp led the Tribe junior high girls to a third-place finish out of seven teams by placing 13th in 14:10. Janel Heitkamp was 15th in 14:27.
Gabe Muhlenkamp had the best time for the Tribe boys in 20th in 13:38.
Wellman, Minnich lead
SELMA — Megan Wellman and Emi Minnich led the East Jay Middle School girls cross country team to a fourth-place finish out of 11 teams at Saturday’s Selma Invitational.
The sixth and seventh grade boys were also fourth out of 12, and the eighth grade boys finished seventh out of eight.
Wellman and Minnich went back-to-back in the girls race, taking third and fourth places in times of 12:22 and 12:24 respectively. Kellie Fortkamp was 25th in 13:59 ahead of Sophie Bader (32nd - 14:15) and Abby Saxman (33rd - 14:18).
Michael Denney placed eighth for the sixth and seventh grade boys in 12:19. Tim Hein and Luke Weaver each finished in 13:03 for 20th and 21st respectively, and following them were Mathew Cox (30th - 13:30) and Mark Hein (34th - 13:38).
Jalen Ryder finished in 11:39 to lead the eighth grade boys team in sixth place. Tyler Wendel was 23rd in 12:36 ahead of Adam Jutte (25th - 12:40), Bryan Schwieterman (35th - 13:02) and David Fernandez (41st - 13:18).[[In-content Ad]]
