JCHS girls basketball

CONNERSVILLE - The struggles came early, and the struggles came late.

Jay County High School's girls basketball team trailed by 21 points after the first quarter, rallied all the way back to take the lead and then stumbled to the finish in a 50-46 loss Saturday to the Connersville Spartans.

Pazia Speed scored the Patriots' only basket of the first quarter as they trailed 23-2. JCHS (13-3, 1-2 Olympic Athletic Conference) bounced back with 21 points in the second quarter and another 18 in the third, before managing just five in the final eight minutes.

Jay County held the Spartans without a third-quarter field goal - Laura Richards hit a free throw for their only point - as it grabbed a 41-38 lead. But despite shooting just 1-of-6 from the line in the third quarter and barely 50 percent for the game, the foul line made all the difference for Connersville.
